Women’s Mentoring Groups

Consistent with the mission of CBC as a whole, the Women’s Mentoring Groups Ministry seeks to exalt Christ by making disciples. We do this specifically by walking alongside women to encourage them to grow in character until they are conformed to Christ’s image, in conviction through the knowledge of truth, and in competence by having opportunities to use their talents and spiritual gifts to serve and love others, all to the glory of God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

Womanly Dominion, Mark Chanski

Led by: Mandy Schoonhoven (209) 676-0485

Today, more than ever, Christian women need to be encouraged in the rich and multifaceted role God has designed for us. Women, just like men, are called to the Dominion Mandate, to subdue and rule in our God-assigned spheres of life — in personal godliness, in emotional resilience, in marital life, in motherhood, in the church, and in the public square. We are to “play our position,” and “play it with all our might.” This study of Womanly Dominion will open your eyes to the robust opportunities before us while anchoring your hearts in the truth of scripture’s teaching on the distinct role of women and our dependence on the grace of Christ to accomplish it. Note: this study is a repeat from last year in case you missed it.

For the fall session, we will be studying Part 1 of this book which examines the recognition and rebuke from Jesus Christ to his church and the way of restoration. Strauch says, “… an individual or a church can teach sound doctrine, be faithful to the gospel, be morally upright, and work hard, yet be lacking love and therefore, be displeasing to Christ.” The spring session will cover Part 2 of the book which goes over practical ways to cultivate love in the local church.

The Book of Romans

Led by: Rosa Loving (925) 322-7770

When you study Romans, you walk into a courtroom. First, Paul calls Jews and Gentiles to the stand and finds both guilty before God. Then he explains God’s marvelous way of salvation—justification by faith! The objection is: this will encourage people to sin! To the contrary. Paul explains how the Christian can experience victory, liberty, and security. The righteousness of God received by faith makes it possible for us to live right lives; as women, learn how we can honor our Heavenly Father by pursuing Christ-likeness in our role as women. Be right with God, right with others, and having a right (biblical) view of ourselves!

The Book of Haggai

Led by: Abigail Fredeluces (510) 331-1218

Consider your ways. As Christian women, we are called to seek God’s Kingdom and righteousness first. However, in pursuit of our own security, we get derailed from our ultimate call and purpose and put others things before Him: our future, our relationships, our careers, our hopes, even our own ministries. The people in Haggai faced the same issue. God released the Israelites from captivity in order to build His temple. Instead, they used their newfound freedom, time, and resources to build their own lives. Consider your ways. As He does in Haggai, God calls us today to turn from our selfish pursuits and to receive the blessing of prioritizing Christ and living for His glory.
